Preparing your Swimming Pool for Cyclone Alfred.

nathan9021

As Cyclone Alfred approaches SEQ's Coastline, here are some important steps to minimise the weather events impact on your swimming pool and help protect your valuable Pool Equipment and surrounds.

1) Clean your Pool area:

- remove and secure all loose items to prevent them from becoming projectiles in High Winds

- this includes Pool Poles/Nets/Brushes/Vacuum Plates/Pool Cleaners/Furniture/Inflatables/Toys/Blankets/Rollers/Accessories

2) Remove any loose debris from in and around your Pool Pumps/Heat Pumps/Pool Equipment

3) Lower the Water Level in the Pool:

- reduce the Water Level in the Pool to 1/2 way down the Skimmer Box Opening

- Sand/Media Filter - set Filter to Backwash or Waste mode to drain water from the Pool, making sure you Turn the Pool Pump Off VERY TIME you shift the Multiport Valve Handle between Filter and Backwash/Waste/Rinse

- Once Water level has dropped to 1/2 down the Skimmer Box, make sure you turn the Pump Off again and return the MultiPort Valve Handle to Filter Mode

- Cartridge Filter - your Cartridge Filter will either have a Waste Valve/Line Plumbed into the pipework somewhere between the Pool Pump and Return Lines, or it will not

- if you can locate a Waste Valve/Line - turn the Pool Pump OFF, open the Waste Valve and turn the Pool Pump back on

- Once Water level has dropped to 1/2 down the Skimmer Box, make sure you turn the Pump Off and CLOSE the Waste Valve/Line again

- NB Please take a photo of the Waste Valve Handle's position prior to moving it, so you know the exact position it needs to be returned to to avoid shutting if incorrectly which can block waterflow and cause damage to the Pool Pump/Pipework

4) Before the Cyclone Hits, make sure you turn OFF the Power to your Pool Equipment and disconnect each piece of equipment from the PowerPoint and/or Turn OFF Isolation Switches eg Pool Pumps, Chlorinators, Heat Pumps etc

- this is to protect your equipment from damaging Power Surges/Lightning Strikes/Flooding

5) Roll up your Pool Blanket and move the Pool Blanket/Roller from the Pool - locate to a safe location

6) As soon as the weather settles/Cyclone has passed, turn Power back onto your Pool Equipment, reset Clock/Timer/Output Settings on your Chlorinator or Control Box and Test your Pool Water to rebalance the Pool Water after the significant rains it will have received.

Most of all, stay safe and we hope you see you all again soon.

Karlis, Nathan and the Team,

Pure Aqua Pool Care
